Clinical Engineering Department

Clinical Engineering Department staff support the safe use of essential medical devices at Kano General Hospital. Clinical Engineers, also called CE, are medical device specialists who help maintain safe, reliable, and uninterrupted treatment.

From daily inspections to critical care settings such as dialysis and surgery, we work as part of the medical team. In addition, we support healthcare safety by checking devices, assisting clinical procedures, and responding when equipment support is needed.

About the Clinical Engineering Department

Established as an independent division in October 2021, our department manages everything from high-tech equipment maintenance to direct clinical assistance in the HCU, operating rooms, and catheterization labs.

Clinical Engineering Department Equipment Management

We employ a centralized management system to oversee the entire lifecycle of medical devices, from procurement to disposal. Also, annual maintenance plans and daily ward rounds help ensure every device is ready for patient use.

Clinical Engineering Department infusion pump management

Pump Management: Daily safety checks for infusion and syringe pumps.

Clinical Engineering Department mechanical ventilator inspection

Ventilators: Managing 18 units including NPPV and HFNC support.

Clinical Engineering Department Clinical Operations

The Clinical Engineering Department supports several clinical fields. For example, CE staff assist with dialysis, intensive care, operating room equipment, catheterization, and pacemaker-related device management.

Field Core Responsibilities
Dialysis Operation of dialysis machines, RO unit maintenance, and water quality management.
Intensive Care (HCU) Operation of CRRT, CART, and circulatory assist devices (IABP, ECMO).
Operating Room Anesthesia machine support, navigation systems, and MEP monitoring.
Catheterization Hemodynamic management, IVUS analysis, and sterile assistance in angiography.
CIEDs (Pacemakers) Remote monitoring, device optimization, and safety management during MRI/surgery.

Clinical Engineering Department Medical Device Safety Training

We foster a hospital-wide safety culture through annual orientations for new staff and specialized study sessions for life-sustaining medical equipment. As a result, staff members can better understand how to use important devices safely.

Our Values

  • Safety First: Rigorous management of all life-sustaining devices.
  • Zero Interruption: Rapid on-site response to ensure treatment continuity.
  • Team Synergy: Enhancing care quality through multidisciplinary coordination.

Glossary of Terms
