Clinical Laboratory Department

Clinical Laboratory Department services support diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care through accurate testing. At Kano General Hospital, clinical laboratory technologists perform specimen testing and physiological testing 24 hours a day.

In the Department of Clinical Laboratory, we perform tests deemed necessary by physicians. These tests support “early diagnosis of disease,” “severity assessment,” “clinical follow-up,” and “evaluation of treatment efficacy.”

The Clinical Laboratory Department primarily handles two areas: “Specimen Testing” and “Physiological Testing.” In addition, our clinical laboratory technologists work around the clock to provide test results needed for medical care.

Specimen Testing

Specimen testing examines materials collected from patients, such as blood, urine, and stool. By using specialized laboratory equipment, this testing helps physicians identify the causes of illness more quickly.

General, Hematology, and Biochemistry Testing

We perform comprehensive analysis for several purposes. For example, urine and stool tests help assess kidney and digestive tract health. Blood counts help check for anemia or infection. Automated biochemical analysis also helps evaluate liver and kidney function.

Furthermore, the Clinical Laboratory Department has implemented COVID-19 antigen quantification testing. This supports timely testing when physicians determine that it is necessary.

Physiological Testing

Physiological testing is performed while interacting directly with patients. These tests provide data from the body as waveforms or images. Therefore, staff members strive to reduce patient anxiety and physical burden during testing.

Primary Physiological Tests
ECG (Holter, Stress Test), EEG/EMG
Ultrasound (Abdominal, Cardiac, Vascular, Breast)
Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS) Screening & Precision Tests
Liver Stiffness Measurement (FibroScan)
Pulmonary Function & Blood Pressure Pulse Wave Velocity

Advanced Diagnostic Tools

Our facility utilizes specialized diagnostic equipment. For instance, FibroScan measures liver stiffness and fat in a non-invasive way. In addition, Body Fluid Volume Measurement analyzes body water, protein, and minerals.

These tools help physicians understand a patient’s condition from several viewpoints. As a result, laboratory data can support diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
